SC CTSI Role
In her role as a research ambassador Sara works directly with the involved with the communities surrounding USC and CHLA. She provides education and information to empower underserved communities to be more involved in their health. Her educational workshops help to remove the barriers that many communities face in deciding whether to participate in a research study through promoting health and scientific literacy among Latino communities. Sara uses popular education techniques to empower vulnerable communities to promote well-being and development for the achievement of individual and collective goals

Professional Background
Sara Calderon has experience working with the community as a Promotora/Community Health Worker. In her 5 years as a Promotora in Los Angeles, she has conducted community workshops on a variety of different health topics such as mental health, nutrition, domestic violence, First Aid/CPR/ECPR and occupational safety. She has worked with community based organizations such as the American Red Cross, East LA Woman Center, UCLA Labor Occupational Program and the LA County Department of Mental Health.
She is currently a Volunteer at the American Red Cross. She received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in her native country of Peru.

Sara enjoys dancing and spending time with family.
