Cecilia has been involved in the educational core of the SC CTSI since 2010, and is the current Director of Workforce Development and Co-Director of the Mentored Career Development Program in Clinical and Translational Research. In addition to working with a strong administrative team to run the day to day activities, Cecilia is involved in developing and teaching educational efforts focused on training the workforce and clinician-scientist in the specifics of translational science. These efforts include from one on one consultations, workshops, seminars to credited classes for the Masters in Clinical, Biomedical and Translational investigations as well as for the Masters and PhD programs in Epidemiology and Statistics. Her overall goal is to increase the quality of conducting and reporting clinical and translational research as well as its impact on human health. For this, she has developed innovative educational experiences that involve learning about team science, scientific communication, translational research methodology, research ethics, as well as innovative approaches involving the community in training academic scholars.
Cecilia is an Allergist and Clinical Immunologist, an Educator and Researcher with the overall goal of building research capacity in the US as well as low and middle income countries. She has taught clinicians for the past 25 years and continues to show passion and love for this field, she truly thrives in the classroom and is continuously highly reviewed by her students world-wide. She also mentors residents, fellows and junior faculty and help them advance their career as researchers in the US and Latin America. She has held various leadership roles in Scientific Societies in Latin America and in very active is currently very active in pushing the educational agenda for research training in the areas of clinical translational science and pulmonary and critical.
